Retractable Studded Snow Tires?

Check out this article from MSNBC talking about Q Tires. You install them just like you normally would install tires, but with these you can simply hit a wireless switch from inside your car and the studs pop out of the tire for increased traction control. The cost is about 30% more but if the safety-level also jumps, it could possibly be well worth the cost. 

I can’t help but think of these when I read this article though – yeah, sometimes it’s hard to be in my head.
