I haven’t seen Avatar, and I shall hang my head in shame. It’s just one of those flicks where you hear so much hype that you can’t help but be disappointed. The reviews I’ve heard have ranged from “Amazing” to “Awesome” to more recently, “They’re fucking blue people and I kind of felt like I was watching a cartoon!” So perhaps I shall wait.

My heart aches for you Snookie, I feel like I have been deceived as I thought you were a classy lady! Ok, I can’t even seriously pretend to be funny about that because it’s not even believable. I will say though, that I don’t personally care that she’s making out with some dude in a bar, that part doesn’t bother me at all even if I think it’s just a tad bit tacky. However, I am a little disappointed in her outfit and positioning. I’ve never really been into “Hello Kitty” before and I’m definitely not into it now, and certainly not with a trucker hat on! Ewww.

Just when you thought the list of megacelebs taking part in tomorrow’s “Hope for Haiti” telethon couldn’t get any bigger, along comes a certain one-named superstar. Madonna has just been added to the bill…

Performers will include Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Jay-Z, and the just-announced Madonna. Appearances will be made by at least the following: Charlize Theron, the Jonas Brothers, Will Smith with Muhammad Ali, Meryl Streep, Tim Allen, David Archuleta, Alec Baldwin, Kristin Chenoweth, Cindy Crawford, Sacha Baron Cohen, John Krasinski, Jack Nicholson, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale.

Yes, that line is from my favorite Mad TV skit, but it kind of just jumped into my head when I read the real headline. Anywho, Starbucks is now making some pricing adjustments based on what you order, so keep it simple and keep the fucking line moving people! Oops, sorry, just had a little flashback there. Below are some of the details and as you can see, it pays to be boring.

• Plain coffee, you’ll see a .10 decrease (let’s go shopping!)
• For an extra shot of coffee, it’ll go from being .55 to .70 (there goes my “Save the children” donation)
• Adding a shot of syrup now costs .40, a 30% jump (Um, has anyone ever bought the Torani syrup from Marshalls, it’s always there and I wonder if it’s any good?)

So for you non-math types, a triple grande soy vanilla latte would go from $5.55 to $6.25. Well, if that’s your drink of choice then you should pay that much money cause that sounds fucking nasty. No offense and oh yeah, bless your heart.

Apparently in London, a DJ played the Van Halen song “Jump” while a woman was on a bridge threatening to jump to her death. He felt that since she couldn’t hear the song no harm was done, and furthermore, it was more to appease and entertain the frustrated drivers that were held up as a result of the impending jump.

When I first heard “Tik Tok”, I thought, “Ok, this is pretty catchy – let me check the video.” Once I saw the video, I thought, “Interesting, this girl could really strike a nerve with the disposable pop market, but does she have more?” Then I heard “Blah Blah Blah” (she’s filming the video now for it as the 2nd release) and I thought, “Again, disposable but catchy as hell – two hot songs off a debut track plus an image that’s quite marketable, hmmm…” But then I heard the album about a month in advance and there are about 5-6 possible hits, I think we could have a new pop star – let’s see if she can deepen her image now and make herself not only marketable but also credible as well. I love that she was on Flo Rida’s “Right Round” but didn’t get paid and also declined to be part of the video, she said no. I like that she’s pretty forthcoming about her message and her struggles, and I most of all like that she appears to be in on the joke, if that makes sense.

Anyway, I won’t bore you with my entire timeline of thoughts about her and perhaps you don’t give this kind of thought to a new artist breaking into the market, but it’s something I’ve been doing since I was in high school, so indulge me if you would. This all leads to an interesting interview that she gave, and I’m including a few highlights (or factoids) below and here is a link for the full interview:

• She was on The Simple Life with Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton because the producers were looking for a highly eccentric family and her family won out.
• While they were at her home, her demo tape had made its way to Dr Luke, the Swedish songwriter behind hits for Kelly Clarkson (Since U Been Gone), Katy Perry (I Kissed a Girl) and Pink (Who Knew). He called the Kesha’s house at the worst time possible – a petulant pre-motherhood Nicole Richie answered. ”She hung up on him,” Ke$ha recalls. “She said ‘Oh, it was just some guy’. Thank God he called back. She could have ruined everything, that bitch! Luckily she didn’t.”
• She once puked in Paris’ closet at a party.
• She sang back-up for Britney Spears, but I’m not sure of the track.
• She was in Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” video.

As you may have heard, the hit show Glee is going to have an entire Madonna episode. Yep, that’s right! It isn’t yet clear if M will make a guest appearance in the episode, but the anticipation is building nonetheless. Reportedly, the song list is as follows:

According to a study for the Annual Reviews of Nutrition, your kitchen could be a large contributor to your fat ass. And I mean that with love. But seriously, there are implications from bad lighting, where you store your junk, plate size, etc. Keep reading and see which items you might be guilty of.

Your plates are platter size

“Most of us make a habit of filling our plates and finishing what’s on them,” says Lisa Young, PhD, RD, author of “The Portion Teller Plan.” But since the 1970s, dinner plates have grown 25%, to 12 inches or more in diameter.

Eat off a plate about 2 inches smaller and you’ll serve yourself 22% fewer calories per meal, which can mean a 2-pound weight lossin 1 month, says Brian Wansink, PhD, director of Cornell University’s Food and Brand Lab and the author of “Mindless Eating.”

Solution: Rethink your place settings. Use your salad plate to hold higher-calorie meats or pasta, and load your dinner plate with veggies, says Young. If you plan to buy new plates, the best size is 10 inches in diameter, says Wansink. “Any smaller, though, and you’ll go back for seconds,” he adds.

You love bright light

High-wattage lighting can raise stress levels, stimulating your appetite and causing you to eat faster than usual, according to research reviews. On the flip side, too dim is no better — studies show low lighting lessens inhibitions.

Solution: Many modern kitchens have layers of light sources, from under-the-cabinet halogens to recessed lights around the perimeter and a decorative fixture over the table, says Joseph Rey-Barreau, a lighting designer in Lexington, KY. When you’re cooking, flip on as many lights as you’d like, but when it’s time to eat, use no more than 240 total watts. That’s the equivalent of four 60-watt bulbs in a four-light over-the-table fixture, for example, or six 40-watt bulbs in six high hats; with compact fluorescent bulbs, use 75 to 100 total watts.

The mail is stacked on your counter

“Kitchens often become dumping grounds,” says Peter Walsh, a professional organizer and the author of “Does This Clutter Make My Butt Look Fat?” A messy space makes healthy eating harder because it’s a lot easier to grab a few cookies or order pizza than it is to unearth a countertop and cook. Plus, clutter leads to stress, which raises cortisol levels in the blood, increasing hunger, adds Pam Peeke, MD, a Prevention adviser and the author of “Fit to Live.”

Solution: Pick one spot for mail and newspapers, and keep large areas of counter space clear for meal prep. Also, store a few cooking tools, such as a plastic steamer or food chopper, on an easily accessible shelf. And reserve an area in the kitchen for eating only, designated by place mats, suggests Evelyn Tribole, RD, who specializes in intuitive eating. When you separate eating from other activities, you’re more likely to focus on your food and listen to fullness cues. Studies show that when distracted, you’ll eat 15% more.

Your glasses are wide

People serve themselves more soda and juice when using short, wide glasses than they do with tall, skinny ones, according to recent research. That’s because we focus on the height of beverages when pouring a portion. Americans drink about 350 calories a day — pour just 2 extra ounces of OJ every morning and you could gain 3 pounds in 1 year.

Solution: Use skinny glasses for soda and juice, and fill wider ones with water and other calorie-free quenchers. When it comes to weight loss, what you drink has a greater impact than what you eat: Studies show that you could lose 1 pound in 6 months just by cutting out one sugar-sweetened drink serving a day.

You have plenty of pantry space

Bulk shopping can help cut food bills, but if you store groceries in their supersize packages, you’re more likely to supersize your meals. Researchers found that people prepared 23% more food when cooking from large containers and ate twice as many candies from big bags as from smaller ones. Having a large variety of food may cause you to overeat too: “With four types of cookies at your fingertips, you’re more likely to try a little of each in search of satisfaction,” says Domenica Rubino, MD, director of the Washington Center for Weight Management and Research in Virginia.

Solution: Big packages don’t have a natural stopping point, so break them down into smaller containers or single-serving portions. Also, keep only one variety of your favorite treat in the house to help curb temptation.

You have a clear cookie jar

According to a research review, just seeing tempting food makes people feel hungrier. It also causes the release of dopamine, a brain chemical that produces a feel-good sensation and may intensify a particular craving.

Solution: “Reengineer what’s within reach,” says Wansink. Put trigger foods in opaque containers and stash them in an inconvenient spot. When you need a step stool to reach those cookies or have to push past veggies to get to the leftover cake in the fridge, it serves as a speed bump to help you pause and reconsider, says Wansink. You should also create a no-brainer snack bucket, adds Rubino. Load an open container with yogurt and cheese sticks, and keep it front and center in the fridge. If you chose a fruit cup instead of potato chips every day, you’d be 4 pounds slimmer in 6 months.

Your kitchen is grand central
On average, kitchens are 50% larger than they were 35 years ago, making them a place where lots of activities happen, such as watching TV or paying bills. According to a recent study, participants who ate while watching TV consumed more food and ate more often — about one extra meal per day.

Solution: Move the TV or laptop out of the kitchen, and shift tasks like talking on the phone to the den, where food is out of sight. And between meals, keep the kitchen lights off — it’s a subtle sign that says the kitchen is closed.

Cellphone users in the United States have contributed more than $11 million to Haitian earthquake relief through text messages in what is being hailed as an unprecedented mobile response to a natural disaster.

The Mobile Giving Foundation called it a “mobile-giving record” for funds raised for a single cause. Donations are rising swiftly, it said, as former President Bill Clinton and other politicians urge the American people to give.

Jim Manis, chief executive officer of the foundation helping to manage cellphone donations, said it was receiving up to 10,000 text messages per second. The foundation said more than $11 million has been donated.

Cellphone users can donate $5 to Haiti-born hip-hop musician Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund by texting the word “Yele” to 501501, or they can donate $10 to other nonprofit organizations, such as the American Red Cross, by texting the word “Haiti” to a specified number, like 90999.

The donation is charged to a user’s cellphone bill.

The American Red Cross said it has received more than $9 million in donations from more than 900,000 mobile phone users. Keep reading.

It seems there’s a little race going on with Verizon, and now AT&T is responding with some new rates. I need to a minute to digest the details but in the meantime, here are a few high-level details:

• Feature Phone customers now have the option of unlimited talk plans for $69.99 a month per person or $119.99 a month for a family plan with two lines included. The unlimited texting plans remain $20 a month for individuals or $30 a month for the Family Talk plan.
• Quick Messaging Device customers may now choose unlimited talk for $69.99, and Family Talk customers may choose unlimited talk for $119.99 per month (two lines included). These plans require a minimum of $20 per month for individual plans and $30 per month for Family Talk plans in texting and/or Web browsing packages for new and upgrading customers.
• All smartphone customers, including iPhone owners, can now buy unlimited voice and data for $99.99. For smartphone customers with Family Talk plans, unlimited voice and data is now available for $179.99 (two lines included). Texting plans remain unchanged at $20 for unlimited plans for individuals, $30 for Family Talk Plans.

A twisted, funny, high-octane adventure, director Matthew Vaughn brings KICK-ASS to the big screen. KICK-ASS tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name — Kick-Ass — assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. The trailer is pretty damned funny, enjoy!

So, maybe that’s not entirely true. Ok, maybe that’s not even a little bit true but still, it’s a pleasant thought as they’re both hotties and just lovely actresses, right? I mean, Sandra in 28 Days and most recently The Blind Side, and Meryl in…well, just about anything.

The movie isn’t of interest to me, like I need additional disasters to have nightmares about. However, the special effects are interesting and this little video shows a glimpse of how they made the devastating scenes come to life.

Yeah, more antics from the brilliant participants on the ‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge’. I feel bad for the girl and honestly, most of these girls probably have them right? But perhaps she should have read the safety sheet for those new funbags she purchased. Just a suggestion.

I’ve been a fan for quite sometime, her music for me is a blend of country, rock, and folk. Her voice can be heartbreaking and cutting at the same time, with a nice touch of country musicality thrown in. Highly recommended.

If you’ve ever played with AOL Radio or even Pandora, you know that they’re pretty good for listening to “radio” but you can’t do anything else while doing so. I’m not sure if this application that Apple is developing will allow it to run in the background, but the rumors are that it will. Here’s hoping!

According to CNET, an Apple news site says the functionality of the application will be similar to what Apple built into the iPod Nano. That includes the ability to pause live FM transmissions and fast-forward when you resume playing.

According to 9 to 5 Mac, the delay in getting the app to market is Apple’s decision to integrate it with the iTunes Store, which is built into the devices. With this integration, people will be able to tap on a song they hear on the radio and buy it through iTunes.

No, it’s not because of his music so much…although I haven’t personally ever been drawn to it. It’s not because he’s unattractive because he’s quite easy on the eyes – and I would venture to even say that he’s smart, cerebral even. You’re standing in front of me acting as if these questions are fair, but now we’re talking about something real. So there was stuff I wanted to put on the record that just didn’t fit the concept. So the next record will have that concept.”

“More political things, worldly things.”

“Nothing rhymed with public option.”

Since I’m a self-confessed legs man, I have to say that relaxed muscle on the back of the leg always gets me. What about this picture intrigues you most? I want to know.

So I picked up this “CD” a week or two ago and I have to say, I’m really loving it. As with most albums, there’s a track that sucks you in and you just know you have to have the rest right? Sometimes you’re disappointed and you realize that there was an obvious reason why they released that single, but sometimes you realize that song is just the tip of a sonic iceberg. That’s how I feel about this artist, Kate Earl.

You might remember when Christian Bale played in The Machinist, he lost about 60+ lbs. to play a crackhead. I use the term crackhead as an all-inclusive term.

Well, playing a crackhead seems to pay quite well because he’s at it again. In his new movie that he’s filming, The Fighter, he plays a boxer turned trainer, turned drug addict named Dickie Eklund. (source: Just Jared)

This ad campaign starring Freddie Stroma makes no sense to me, but it is still worth a look. I understand it’s from an underwear campaign, but since there isn’t sound, just make a silent movie track in your head and enjoy the skin.

Just brilliant, he can actually have unscripted conversations in character. Impressive!

The movie’s coming out in September and it stars Megan Fox, and as everyone would probably agree, her name is very fitting. Another thing to note is that this flick was written by Diablo Cody, and she also wrote Juno.

Doesn’t everybody think that Shia LaBeouf is hot? Well, I do and I know many people that do. Like a fine wine better with age.

Check out this Lady Gaga in an interview in Malta where she says that she’s always held a special place in her heart for the Maltese people. However, they didn’t really know who she was, despite making her records number one. So, I think as most logical people would surmise, it’s probably best to show up to a press conference with your face covered in a pseudo-welder’s mask. Um, um, it’s art. I must remember, IT’S ART people! Don’t be so pedestrian.

In this case, it truly can. Apparently Debra Bader was walking with her hubby, he keeled over, and she gave him CPR to the beat of the Bee Gees’ Stayin’ Alive. She had heard a PSA on the radio about how to do it, so she sprung into disco-action and kept him from visiting the big disco ball in the sky. See the excerpt from the article down below.

The one-minute PSA from the American Heart Association instructed listeners, in the event of cardiac arrest, to perform chest compressions very hard to the beat of the 1970s Bee Gees song “Staying Alive.”

“I sang the song and gave directions to the EMTs at the same time. It was like, ‘Stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive — take a right here, take a left here — Stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive — take this path down here — Stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive,’ ” Bader remembers.

I’m not going to say anything about the outfit Jessica Simpson is wearing, nor am I going to mention her hair – and it is somewhat difficult to not. But what I am going to mention is her singing, because after all, she is a singer. I have found that while Jessica Simpson has a decent voice, some might even say a big voice, she still sings as though it’s painful. Painful to me, and quite possibly painful to herself.

Perhaps if she stopped trying to add all sorts of “runs” or “flourishes” to the song it wouldn’t be so bad, but as it is in the video, I’m nearly holding my breath for a major fuck up to occur. It’s that good.

I have to confess, I have a sort of crush on Jennifer Garner – always have. She’s that girl you want to know, yet she’s oddly sexy. Not as in odd, just sexy in a way I can’t quite pinpoint. I think it’s her sense of humor. Anyway, here’s the trailer and it has Ricky Gervais in it and the storyline is quite unique. I’m intrigued!

The new movie coming out this fall with Cameron Diaz and James Marsden is called The Box, and the trailer just arrived.

In short, it appears to be about a desperate couple receiving a box and if they push the button, someone in the world will die, but they will get a million bucks. Of course, it’s not that simple.
