Out Out, Damned Spot

Someone may have saved $75 on a DVD player this morning, but in the process a man paid the ultimate price.  This is the second year in a row where someone has died at Wal-Mart on Black Friday.

What is really going on with our consumerism? (Read More)

Y’all Selfish!

blackfridaygpssaleWe’re in a recession (or economic downturn, whatever) and here is one of the highlights in today’s Chicago Tribune:

81% of consumers surveyed last week said they panned to shop for themselves during the Thanksgiving weekend, up from 69% last year.

That’s a 12 basis point increase, in the midst of tough times, and I’m not hatin’ whatsoever.  You go and git your Garmin!

Join Me In Boycotting Turkey & K-Mart This Thanksgiving

kmartThe turkey part is obvious but I’m rather certain that Sarah Palin will having something to do with the latter as well.  Anyhow, who really needs to go to K-Mart on Thanksgiving?  They’ll be open if you absolutely have to go, but shouldn’t we protest on behalf of the people who have to deal with the blue light special drama every other day of the year?  Give them a break!

Best Gift Ever!!!

bodum_travel_press1You can thank me later but I’ve found what is likely to be the best gift you can possibly find this holiday season.  The Bodum Travel French Press is functional, environmental, affordable, and thoughtful!!!

If you’ve never tried a french press for your morning brew then I recommend that you pick up one for yourself.  I’ve even tried stank-ol-Foldgers in a french press before and I would have sworn I was drinking the smoothest thing ever.

I did the leg work for you and the cheapest place to find this item is at Amazon.com (Approx $14 including tax & shipping).  Just be sure you pay attention to the shipping estimate because they appear to be in demand and some of the delivery estimates are weeks rather than days.

Fall Into The Gap – 2008 Holiday Ads

The annual Gap print ads are ready, and they’re good!  I’m sure once their commercials start and I can’t get away from that ‘Best Time of the Year’ propaganda then I’ll once again flip flop and change my opinion some.

Additionally, their website is primed and ready to go! Lot’s of artists and actors goofing around:  Romany Malco, Jason Biggs, Janelle Monae (my boo!), Flo-Rida, Sandra Bernhard, Selma Blair, and many others…

Anyhow, here’s a look at what to expect this year (arranged in order of my personal preference)!

Blood Diamonds >>> “Add To Cart”

There’s obviously some grey area involved with a newly promoted site auctioning materials picked up from police confiscation.  The site promises good deals, ‘Hot Pursuit Specials’, and potentially the opportunity to find the lamp that was stolen by that crackhead two years ago.

So far, I’ve seen pretty good deals on snowmobiles, iPods, and a VW Jetta.  Generally speaking, I’m not overly superstitious about materialistic items, but in this case I just don’t know if I could shake the stigma of a new rolex that would constantly remind me of The Wire on HBO.

Happy Shopping & Stay On The Grind!

Is It Too Early For A Black Friday Strategy?

We all know that due to the current economic situation that there are going to be ‘deep discounts’ to lure the few rupples remaining in your change purse to relocate.

Is it too early to start planning for the Black Friday mayhem?  If you’re like me and are addicted to the excitement of arriving somewhere at midnight and waiting like a lemming until they open at 5AM then you may like to add this site to your favorites:  theblackfriday.com

Pay close attention to the ‘Today’s Black Friday Like Deals’ b/c that’s where you are going to see the items that are going to be hot this year.  Currently, they have a good deal on a Blu-ray DVD player

The gamble – will it only get cheaper the closer we get to Christmas?
