“Let Gays Serve Openly In The Military”

My feeling is that if a gay or lesbian person wants to bravely serve their country, they should be allowed to do so and should be able to do so without fear of being kicked out – I mean, they ARE defending us all and the freedoms that we have on a daily basis. The least we can do is give them the respect and love they deserve.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – More than 100 retired generals and admirals called Monday for repeal of the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy on gays so they can serve openly, according to a statement obtained by The Associated Press.

The move by the military veterans confronts the incoming administration of President-elect Barack Obama with a thorny political and cultural issue that dogged former President Bill Clinton early in his administration.

“As is the case with Great Britain, Israel, and other nations that allow gays and lesbians to serve openly, our service members are professionals who are able to work together effectively despite differences in race, gender, religion, and sexuality,” the officers wrote.

New iTunes Releases for 11/18/08

There’s a few good ones for sure, including most notably: Beyonce/Sasha Fierce, David Cook, and Ani DiFranco.

  

I’m listening to Beyonce and after the initial preview I knew I must have it. I’m not a huge fan of her music, although I do think she’s multi-talented, for some reason I just haven’t been turned on to her music since she was in DC. 

Here’s a quick review from Billboard:

Beyoncé devoted half of the tracks on this double-disc set to her feisty alter ego Sasha Fierce (think “Single Ladies”). But, it’s the classic, more timeless R&B songs on the “I Am” portion of the album that seem like a much-welcomed stretch for the singer. Lead single “If I Were a Boy” is the first taste of Beyoncé’s newfound love for powerful ballads. On “Halo” she sings in a lower register than usual over big drums and an epic piano pattern and belts emotively on the Babyface-penned “Broken-Hearted Girl.” DOWNLOAD: “Halo”

Google ‘Voice Search’ Debuts…And It’s Awesome

You can get it on your iPhone Apps Store and it’s called “Google Mobile App” and it allows you to speak your queries instead of typing them and voila, it comes up with the results. I tried saying a specific Target store near me and it not only came up with the address, but I can then map it out with just a click of the button. Coupled with the iPhone 3G GPS functionality and I’m on my way to overspend within minutes! You can read more about it here.

Squirrels – A Few Questions Answered

I love squirrels, I think they’re funny. I love how resilient they are and the other day I was wondering where they go at night? I mean, I have an idea but was curious to know the actual fact about where they make their beds. For that question and some others, see below:

Why do squirrel have big bushy tails?

A squirrel’s tail is used primarily for balance which enables the squirrel to maneuver quickly through the trees without falling. It is also used as a parachute should the squirrel fall, as a blanket in the winter time and to communicate with other squirrels.

How fast can a squirrel run?

There is a story of an Illinois state police officer that once clocked a gray squirrel, with his radar gun at 20 mph, as it was running across a highway. Other research has shown similar speed for gray squirrels.

Do squirrels ever fall?

Yes, squirrels do fall sometimes. They rarely get hurt from short falls because they use their tails as a parachute and usually land on their feet. However, they can sustain severe spinal injuries from an awkward landing.

Can squirrels swim?

Yes. They use a “dog paddle” motion and use their tail as a rudder. However, swimming is very strenuous for a squirrel and is not done unless it is a necessity.

Do squirrels fight?

They play fight when they are young and they will fight for real during mating season. Normally, squirrels are not aggressive, although they will chase or nip at other squirrels that are feeding in their territory.

Where do squirrels sleep?

They sleep in nests which are made of twigs and leaves and the interior is lined with fur, feathers or other soft material for comfort. There are normally two exits in the nest, and they are built high in a tree between two strong branches. They build their nests high enough to provide protection from ground predators, yet not too high or the nest will be destroyed by the winds. Squirrels also will build a nest in a hollowed-out tree cavity.

Where can I find White Squirrels?

Bye Bye Jerry Yang, Yahoo Next?

Yahoo, under fierce financial pressure, has begun a search to replace company co-founder Jerry Yang as chief executive, the company said Monday. 

“Jerry and the board have had an ongoing dialogue about succession timing, and we all agree that now is the right time to make the transition to a new CEO who can take the company to the next level,” Chairman Roy Bostock said in a statement. “We are deeply grateful to Jerry for his many contributions as CEO over the past 18 months, and we are pleased that he plans to stay actively involved at Yahoo as a key executive and member of the Board.”

Will Izzie Be The Next One To Leave Grey’s Anatomy?

Is Izzie Stevens on the way out of Seattle Grace?  I think she may be, and wouldn’t that be a real shocker and way to capitalize on an already dramatic season of cast members coming and going?  The last few weeks she’s been seeing, conversing among, and grasping at the embodiment of her beau Denny (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).  In this week’s episode it looks like she’s going to take things to a ‘whole nutha level’ with some Ghastly Freakie-Deekieness. 

Is it too much of a stretch to forecast that Izzie is going to be found out for her delusions, receive a psych eval, and gracefully dip out of Seattle Grace all together?  Has Katherine Heigl grown to such notoriety that she can proceed without her Grey’s Anatomy umbrella?
